The Office of Representative Naughton Announces Distribution of Local Aid and Growing Economy Throughout the Commonwealth

BOSTON - The Office of State Representative Harold P. Naughton, Jr. announces that the 12th Worcester District will receive an additional $333,985 in local aid because of action in the supplemental budget on October 27, 2011. Governor Deval Patrick approved this action, which distributed $65 million in supplemental budget for the cities and towns of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Representative Naughton believes this funding will help restore necessary funds back into the cities and towns within the 12th Worcester District and throughout the Commonwealth. The good fiscal management by the Legislature has led to the ability to create these reversions.

“The Town of Lancaster is appreciative of the additional assistance from the supplemental budget,” said Lancaster Town Administrator Orlando Pacheco. “The added revenue will help contain our reliance on property taxes to deal with the rising fixed costs we face.”

“The Town of Boylston is thankful to receive the supplemental aid payment from the State, and appreciate the efforts by the Administration and Legislature to assist communities in addressing local services,” said Town Administrator Nancy Colbert Puff. We hope this is indicative of a trend that will restore critically needed funding to cities and towns.”

Not only has Massachusetts seen improvements in the FY11 budget, but a recent report from the U.S. Department of Commerce says the economy grew at an annual rate of 3.9 percent between July and September, up from 3.4 percent in the previous quarter. The U.S. economy grew at a 2.5 percent annual rate during the same period, nearly doubling from 1.3 percent pace in the previous quarter.

It was the strongest national growth rate in a year.

Local aid being distributed for Representative Naughton’s 12th Worcester District includes:

  • BOYLSTON- $20,948
  • CLINTON- $143,963
  • NORTHBOROUGH- $68,217
  • STERLING- $42,399
  • LANCASTER- $58,458
  • TOTAL FOR 12TH WORCESTER= $333,985
